As small business owner myself, I also like to support other small enterprises. I love to visit a Farm Shop and I do not really mind which one. I enjoy the variety and the seasonality of the produce. My current favourite shop is on The Ridgeway in Enfield. They have a huge selection of eggs. Large or small, white and brown! Duck, goose and hen eggs are all vying for attention and purchase.

The staff are always ready for a chat and ask quick-fired questions about what is new and about to be added to our range!

I hung these Girl About Town Shopping Bags, (filled with my purchases) on their gate!  Our shoppers are a good size for such expeditions. I thought they made a great image and the picture was a celebration being able to use the camera in the spring sunshine. It was just a shame that special sunshine only lasted a few hours!

13 years later I still have those lolly sticks and although he was only 3 at the time, I know that bouquet took all his concentration and creativity at the time. How much patience do nursery teachers need, much more than me for sure?

As years go by presents become slightly more imaginative and the handwriting on the card a little more legible. But Mothers Day is always special and however old our mums get they need and deserve a treat. I do not think those treats need to be huge, of course it is nice if they are but so long as us multi tasking, taxi driving, laundry ladies are rewarded with a smidgen of recognition for our efforts we can battle on another year.

I often say I have parent of only child syndrome, I have just one son, but at least I am aware of my condition. Ready to take on anyone who hurts him, despite him being more than big enough to look after himself?  What is it, on becoming a parent that you inherit the traits of a lioness protecting her cubs, such is the bond of love and protection we have for our children. When they are little and a kiss and cuddle can make the world seem better. A plaster effortlessly relieve the pain of a damaged knee, it is hard to imagine your relationship with a teenager. Be warned time speeds by and before you know it hubby is hoping for some of outgrown trendy gear to be passed his way!

I lost my mum a few years ago, but she told me 2 things.

“If you only ever have 1 child spoil him but don’t ruin him” and the other, oh so true -  “Whatever age your children are, they are still your chicks!” Truly simple and very true.

So maybe no paper flowers this year, but whatever my little, 6 foot, treasure manages to pass my way having levitated himself from the warmth of his duvet will be cherished..
